The Folding Room

By Nicola Barker

 Residency dates; 11th -24th June

Public Open Days; Saturday 23rd, & Sunday 24th June, 2-4pm

Artist Nicola Barker is taking over Room with a performative installation piece entitled ‘The Folding Room’. The space will be filled with a wealth of linen and other domestic fabrics, which will be carefully presented within the space. Visitors will be encouraged to donate folded piles of linen to The Folding Room and the work will include a personal diary of visitors’ thoughts about domestic work and repetition.

The outcome of this project will be public engagement throughout the making process, contact with a local linen company and a celebration viewing for the public on completion of the final piece. The Folding Room is a domestic space of solitude, reflecting on the futility and repetition of folding, tidying and putting away.
